SimSurgery® was established in 1999 to develop and sell medical simulation software to teach surgical training.

SimSurgery® originates from 3 leading knowledge based groups in Oslo, Norway:

- The Interventional Centre, established at Rikshospitalet
(the National Hospital of Norway)
- 3D animation groups
- Sintef Applied Mathematics, a world leading scientific center in the field of Geometry and Mathematical Modelling

The first product for training on laparoscopic suturing (MIST Suture), was launched in Europe and the US at the beginning of 2003. The software platform, Sim3DM®, developed by SimSurgery is ideal for real-time 3D simulation of deformable objects like soft tissue and sutures.

The owners of SimSurgery® are private equity foundations and investors, core personnel and the National Hospital of Norway.
