SEP Cholecystectomy

The SEP Cholecystectomy learning module is an extension product to SEP Basic.

The SEP Cholecystectomy learning module focuses on training the removal of the gallbladder with minimal risk of injury to the bile ducts and surrounding structures. The module is divided into two simulation parts. The first part is the dissection of Calot`s triangle with clipping and division of the cystic duct and artery. The second part of the simulation is the dissection of the gallbladder away from the liver bed. A camera exercise with either 0° or 30° camera angles is included.

As well as training on the removal of the gallbladder, the module gives an insight into the following procedural steps

OR Setup

Learn about patient, team and equipment setup for optimal access to the gallbladder and to obtain a clear view to the monitors.

Port Placement

Learn about optimal placement of trocars, choices of instruments and the importance of these decisions.

Exploration

Determine location and conditions with a 0° or 30° camera. Inspect the gallbladder and detect possible abnormalities.

Exposure

Learn about exposure of relevant anatomical structures by placing the patient in the Trendelenburg position.

Cholecystectomy

Learn how to gently dissect Calot's triangle to obtain an optimal exposure of the cystic duct and cystic artery, and then clip and cut them. Also learn how to dissect the gallbladder away from the hepatic bed.
